Red Rocks, NV. New Years

We decided to head to Las Vegas, Red Rocks for our New Years break.  The weather wasn’t forecasted for sun shine but we assumed it would be warm because it was Las Vegas… oh well… we weren’t quite right!  We spent the first day in sunshine.  climbing some good holds!  t. shirts, lots of sweat!  We spent one night at a 40th birthday party for the “triplets”. Dave, John and Paul.  I like their wives so it was a good visit.  Abby fell right asleep at their house… three nights in a tent, cold…. she was happy to be in a bed and warm.

The other days were cold.  We tried to stay warm every day.  Keep moving.  Playing on rocks.  finding great views.  New Years eve we went to Cafe Rio and a movie so we could stay warm.  We didn’t end up cooking our food very much because it was too cold to stand out there and wait for food to heat!

Darren went for a ride one day with Rob H.  So the kids and I went hiking with Ang and Lacey.  It was neat to see where there had been plates shifting and movement of rocks.  Ang helped squelch a tantrum.  The girls had fun building a carine.  Then fun pictures after the hike!

The Black Corridor, Lower level… great climbs! The last day was sunshine!  It was so nice!  We finally had DRY red rocks to climb.  We climbed for a few hours then headed home … long drive.

We drove all night so eager to be warm and in our beds.  I love camping and sleeping in a tent. But its a bit hard when it gets down to low 30’s every night.  And the wind was so cold!  Lots of gratitude for all our luxuries when we arrived home.  Great family vacation.
