Cuba- Part 1 - Vinales

A long weekend turned into a short weekend getaway.

September 5th fly out. Arrive the 6th

Friday- We were picked up by Martin'. He had an amazing old car. It was hot and smelled like diesel full but we enjoyed the 3 hours drive. We stopped in Soroa on the way to Vienelas to see the mnt town, waterfall and amazing views. I remember big spiders in Guam. Lots of big spiders here also! also geckos- lots of geckos in Guam. We had our first good meal. Cuban food is great!

We stayed at an Air BnB in Vinales.  The pool wasn't all the way filled when we got there but it sure was nice to cool off.  Alexander was an incredible host and cook.  This was the home he grew up in and now uses it to make a living for his family.  There were farms around us.  Even a lovely pig that Steve made friends with.  We had an amazing breakfast every morning.

We went to a local restaurant one night.  You enter in a small door at the front of someones house.  But then it opens up to a full huge restaurant.  Its how people make a living.  It was a pretty nimce view behind us.

Saturday- We had an old NICE restored jeep pick us up.  We drove an hour and a half to Cayo Jutias beach. We walked 30 minutes through the woods and found a nice quiet WARM beach.

I loved all the vintage cars everywhere.  They really were every where.  Darren and I found a beach all to our selves after walking for a long time.  Our nice driver stopped at a river on the way home. We found the locals cooling off and enjoying a Saturday.  We got to rinse the sticky salt water off before we got back to our place.

Sunday- Horse back riding.  The horses do it every day so there was no steering or trotting... just sitting on a horse for many hours.  We stopped at a cave, La Cueva de Palmarito- We got to swim inside a cave. The cave went for about 22 kilometers.  It opened up into a whole other valley.  We visited a smoke shake where cigars were made. The valley was called the Valley of Silence.  It was beautiful.  Everywhere was beautiful.  We had lunch on a local farm.  They grow everything there that we ate.  It was beautiful and delicious.  After heat, heat, and more heat we opted to have 2 air conditioned taxes take us back into Havana.  It was lovely.

• Horse Riding 5cuc x person x 1 hour. Wear long Trousers on horse

Abbys note when we got home: I love you. I hope you had a great time at Cuba Mom and Dad.
