56 miles past hanksville Total Distance: 5 miles  SAN JUAN COUNTY
Difficulty: Strenuous     The Black Hole of White Canyon is a semi-technical canyoneering adventure. This route will require 5 to 6 hours to complete with a shuttle vehicle, add about 45 minutes without a shuttle. A 60-foot rope is useful for handlines, lowering packs and emergency use. Novice canyoneers or those with poor downclimbing skills will need to rappel a couple of short drops, all less than 15-feet high.

North Wash

This is a great location if you want to get away from the bustling towns of Springdale and Moab and have a more remote (no cell service) feel. Be sure to load up all your food/water/gas in Hanksville, then head 29 miles south along Highway 95 (just past the Ticaboo/Powell turnoff) to the Sandthrax Campground, the heart of the North Wash.
Using this campground as a hub, you have access to 50 plus canyons a stones throw away. Be prepared for more stemming, down/upclimbing, and marginal anchors in this region (cairn anchors/deadman/sandtrap).
  • Hogwarts: 2-3 hours; four rappels up to 90 feet; scenic arch; good length rappels.
  • Morocco: 2-3 hours; four-six rappels up to 50 feet; cool arch in the route; some exposure on approach.
  • Leprechaun: 3-6 hours; rappels up to 50 feet; Left/Right are easy; middle is tight.

Canyonlands- Syncline loop 8.3 miles. challenging hike. most of the park rescues happen on that park. 

Ogden- 9th Street Crag- Rappel and climb

Silver Reef Trail: Have a kid obsessed with dinosaurs? Silver Reef trail at Red Cliffs Recreation Area is a dinosaur-track trail located near Leeds, Utah. The Silver Reef trail is not a mile long by itself, but if you are visiting Red Cliffs anyway, you will want to check out their Red Reef trail (swimming holes and small waterfalls) and Native American archeological trail too! Each trail is about a quarter mile long and you can choose to stay at Red Cliffs and camp or use one of their day use parking spots! This place will become your all in one place camping destination!  RTR. Red Reef- RTR In spring big pot holes to jump in.  Good camping walk up.

  • Portal Canyon- Virgin Gorge- cross river over a dozen rappels, cross river
  • Mayday Canyon- close to Cherry- to the right of Portal canyon.  Cool to see airplane wreckage. 

Escalante- southern Utah Middle
Queens Garden Trail- Bryce canyon
Coyote Gulch in Escalante- Set up base camp, hike 3 miles up Hurricane Wash, then next day hike 6 miles down to the Escalante confluence.  "sneaker" route 
Death hollow- backpacking trip- 14 miles round trip, water,
