Puffin Birds on Westman and Reynisfjara to see the Basalt Columns

  1. **** Westman island ferry starts at Landeyjahöfn to Vestmannaeyjar. Hike up ladders, chains, ropes and steep grassy meadows for 45 minutes to get to the top of Heimaklettur (Home Rock) to see puffins and sheep.  Walk along the coast with extra time. Kids had a budget of 500 Iceland dollars.  We all got yummy treats. Tyler and I ran to “Gru’s house”/ an old black church on the coast before the ferry left.

  1. *****Black Sand Beach Reynisfjara southern tip of Iceland, Basalt Columns,  sneaker waves.  Near the town of Vik. Hálsanefshellir sea cave and the Garðar cliff, which are basalt columns. View the **Dyrhólaey’s arched cliffs and lighthouse across the Bay. Can be very windy.

  1. Black crust pizza in Vik then camping the night in Thakgil. Hot showers.

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

****Seljalandsfoss waterfall- walk behind the waterfall. Take a rain jacket. ALLTRAILS 1.2 miles RT, 400 elevation, 45 minutes. Then walk over to Gljufrabui Waterfall (hidden inside the canyon), you can walk between the rocks to see the inner waterfall.   Busy but beautiful.

***** Nauthúsagil waterfall and canyon hike with chains. Two waterfalls in the canyon. Then hike out and around to see the spectacular third waterfall. We paused and got some great family drone photos by the third waterfall.

***** Skogafoss ALLTRAILS 10.1 miles, 2,500 elevation, 5.5 hours  Stairs up to it, HIKE BACK FAR!!! GO ALL THE WAY TO THE BRIDGE  20+ waterfalls. It was raining quite a bit. We turned around after almost 4 miles because we were soaked through and fog was everywhere. We knew if we made it to the bridge. We probably wouldn’t see anything. So we did about 8 miles round-trip.
