Snaefellsnes Peninsula

 ***Sheeps waterfall/Selvallafoss/Vatnaleid -around crazy lava fields, around and behind waterfall. 10 minute hike. Short easy.  Right off road. If you’re there stop but no special trip. 

*****Kirkjufell Waterfall/mountain- Beautiful views. big beautiful, most photographed mountain.  ALLTRAILS 3. miles RT, 1,400 elevation, rock climbing at top with their ropes. Some mud. Fantastic hike.  Literally straight up the mountain.   What a view.  

***Budakirkja Church-Black church. Sure it was cute and has a neat story but nothing to go out of the way for. 

SKIPPED DUE TO WEATHER.  So windy and rainy.  We opted to drive the two hours to our campsite instead . Arnarstapi town to see Gatklettur Arch in the water and Londrangar Cliffs.  Made it to our campsite so we could shower, cook dinner and play some games.  

Northern Iceland

Tuesday we are slowing down.  Tired and getting more eager to get home.  I am so grateful for the time we have had together.  

 Hveravellir, one of the oldest horticultural stations in the country, where you can shop fresh vegetables on weekdays  It was across the street from our campground so we stopped and got some yummy fresh produce. 

****Godafoss waterfall. Throw in Pagan gods in 1000 AD.  What will we throw in? ALLTRAILS 1.7 miles RT 300 ft, 50 minutes. Beautiful place.  I love the story behind it. 

Then long three hour drive to ...

**Hvitserkur - basalt arch in black sand water, looks like a dragon or rhino. ALLTRAILS .4 miles RT. 30 min. We played in the beach throwing rocks for a while, knowing we had a long two hour drive ahead of us.  We stopped for the night at a camping place along the coast.  It was so nice to have a big kitchen, a good shower, internet, and a place to play games. 

Studolagil Basalt Canyon and Buggy Myvtan

1. *****Studolagil Basalt columns. Hike East side, . ALLTRAILS 3 miles,  603 elevations, 2 hours  Park at Studlafoss on google. (Cross the small bridge over the Jokulsa river). West side has bathrooms and platforms to view.

1. *****Detifoss, Selfoss, Hafragilsfoss waterfall. Take dirt bumpy road on East side.  Not google maps on west side. Park at Detifoss and hike to Selfoss.  Detifoss huge like Niagara”. Get up close to the waterfalls to feel the power Selfoss was spectacular from the east side.  So wide.  You couldn’t see it from the west side.  Hafragilsfoss was a short drive up.  Can’t get down to it but great stop.  ALLTRAILS 2.4 miles RT 340 Elevation.  1 hr. 

Myvtan town. ***Grjotagja Cave was pretty with hot springs in it but no swimming, 5 minute stop. Skipped Hverfell crater, Dimmuborgir lava fields, and Hofdi lava formations due to so many bugs
